I Discovered Something!
I have discovered something very minor for most I am sure, but for me it was like being "that" person who walks into a glass door - like right into it, and not quietly, no that would be ok and not embarrassing. No what I am talking about is the full blown, hands full, running late, on the phone, with coffee somewhere on my being, weaving to not hit the hundreds of people around me on the sidewalk and as I rush into the building I oh so gracefully slam into the glass door. Stupid Windex
What it is that I discovered is that in the morning - it can be positive, beautiful, energetic, happy, determined... yes all those things are possible!
I find it hard to believe that after years of struggling and despising a new day that I have finally succumbed to the theory of "yes - it is a new day!" {{{{{Cue birds chirping, sun shining, and Bobbi McFerrin’s “Don’t worry be happy" song playing in the background}}}} You get the picture.
See, I figured out that if the day is planned out in advance knowing that everything planned will probably change or "adjust" themselves - well then... you know… I can’t find the word… uuuhhhmmm…that is when... oh who am I kidding... really??? Mornings??? Me?
What I discovered is if I splash cold water on my face the second I fall out of bed I am instantaneously, beyond a shadow of a doubt awake and alert, therefore not stumbling around the house trying to get ready and misplacing everything I need... nope, instead I am wide awake to see that each of the little things needed attending to yesterday are sitting on the counter smiling at me as I come downstairs. Each of those little things are waiting with bright eyes as I realize I forgot to put the clothes from the washer into the dryer and in that load was pretty much all the clothes needed for today - for everyone in the house. Each of those things wait for me this same morning the pretty, yellow, bright light on my car dashboard shows me what a gas pump looks like – “illuminated” – this being only after I have finally gotten the dogs to do their business outside (instead of inside) and because it is apparently necessary to sniff every blade of grass in my backyard I am now 10 minutes late…so add another 5 minutes to fill car with gas and praise the dogs for not making a mess in the house, and of course, thanking my dryer for containing a simple alternative to today's wardrobe.
Yes these are the things that make me realize - only now after I have lived thru the day today - that they were each just something minor. Nothing big and impressive - just little things along the way to let me know that - yep... each with a grain of salt... and the simple knowledge that each mountain may in fact be simply a pothole you can step right on over.... and ultimately the door and window that has been so adamantly nailed and super glued shut for so very long is in fact staring right at you, knowing you haven’t been paying attention to either of them… they both are saying – “Hey, you! Turn around already! Can you hear us? Turn around and look! If you turn around and look you can meet our relatives – “different outlook open door” and “different perspective open window”
Here is to your day having little idiosyncrasies not laughing at you, but simply there as reminders that life is short. Life is big. Life is yours. Live big today and enjoy the minor potholes. (Oh and make sure you “turn” around… those pesky different outlook open door and different perspective open window might just be waiting for you.
Have a great rest of the week....
