A column on the perfect Sunday morning... with children, dogs, cats, biscuits, and laundry
I have discovered the perfect Sunday morning. Firmly embedded in my mind is the realization that millions of people in a million different places have searched and searched a million different ways and times to find it. Well jackpot and lotto and prizes galore... I am the finder and the winner, I believe.
In the first two hours of any day the average cape with the S wearing mother accomplishes more than she ever would have believed prior to having kids. She has done 3 loads of laundry, the dishes (twice) fed and outed both dogs, fed the cat, the kids, the fish... cleaned the bathroom and vacuumed the house, she has paid a couple of bills even though her wishing the $10 into a $100 did not work as she imagined it magically could, she has packed away the winter clothes, corrected the homework due for Monday morning, and even saw who won the big game the night before... Yes, she is wearing a pink cape with a beautiful S on it... stands for Sassy and Strong and in the words of a 6 year old - Stupendous.
Yes, this is what I have accomplished on the perfect Sunday morning...
However, that is not why it is the perfect Sunday morning...
Here is why...
On this perfect Sunday morning during all and after all that is complete, the windows are open with the small breeze of spring and rain coming floating through the entire house, the children are not arguing or screaming, the dogs are not barking... the house is calm. At peace. Dare I say serene?... perfection.
The children are respectful (keeping arguing with me to a minimum of only 4 times an hour instead of the average 12) , the dogs have not chewed on any furniture (yet), and the fish is still alive. Victory. All are reasons for this perfect Sunday morning.
There is hope. There is a motion and happenings already moving forward that only the universe knows of... I embrace them as the sun streaming through the rain clouds... it is going to be a beautiful rest of the day... for now, I hold on to the perfect Sunday morning, my coffee, and my cape.
