Imagination of the Season

As many may follow an age old tradition
Others may step to a different beat or religion
But to small 8 and smaller 5 year olds whose imaginations run wild
It is more of a moment where story time is compiled
Into a whim or a saying, a cliché, or even a bell
Into real life each morning with a countdown of sorts
That knowing and seeing the imagination of elves at work
Heeding to no thoughts of impossible
It is within normalcy for them to believe in …. Well, you know…
The idea of someone, greater and kinder than any
To ensure they are looked in on, and loved,
and of course ~ showered gifts a plenty
For no matter how you measure your adult life up to now
It is in their eyes that we know if we have found
The balance of imagination, of hope, smiles, and fantasy
Against the reasoning of beliefs, birthdays, and “honorous” days for you&me
But to say it once again, where all might be lost
A child sees much more than any of us could ever justify or cause
They see all the truth in imagination and reality
They believe that anything is actually real and truly possible you see
That no dream is too small, too big, or too silly
And they don’t sit and wonder if they will fail, fall down, and not be pretty
They simply just use their hearts, their brains, and their souls
To go through each day with the greatest of ease
Knowing that at this time of year – the best behavior is indeed and actually ensuring they say “please”
See they know in this day of technology and advancements
That Santa has helpers, elves, reindeer, and even backups
There is of course the Grandma and Grandpa’s that are Santa’s special partners
For many reasons, like age, wisdom, and understanding
But ask any 5 or 8 year old why – they will tell you with an attempted wink and smile
They understand grandparents are partners with Santa and like Santa they are old and wrinkly and sometime smelly - But not in a bad way, they stink of cookies and sweets – of course things no child likes
These partners even get to know what Santa made for each of them, and even you and me
But grandparents are not the only ones who get to be a part of the whole plan you see
Each mom and dad has gifts that they have been given… to hone in on and perfect throughout this whole season
See we moms and dads can “see” the elves, but don’t get me wrong
Not the elves in the shop ~ building and making and deploying all of the toys
No, I speak of the recon elves that are sent to see that children are good
They do this by floating on snowflakes, in the twinkle on the tree, and the rays of the sun
We as parents are able to point out, in perfect “moments” that each child is being watched
To make sure they are good, that each knows how to be nice, and respectful, and kind
In looking out for others, including siblings, parents, and pets – all and everyone of course
They make their beds and pick up their toys, they never get cross or demanding or bullies
Other things that make the whole balance of the season full,
Is explaining that Santa’s lists, may be long and may be many, and if he gets too much
Well that is why he has partners and backups… where sometimes he drops toys off early
He makes sure each boy and girl is taken care of and shown love, one partner at a time
So when you are asked if Santa is real, how does he get the sleigh up, and what size are the elves really,
Just stop and remember that imagination is part of life and after a while…
A story and more while, the magic of this side of the season
Will haunt you in a way that makes gingerbread men walk
That brings doves out in droves
And encourages toys to all talk
For no matter if you are a 5, 8, or 35 years old this year
Santa and his elves are watching and can hear
If you speak loud or softly, with goodness or mocking
Look out for each other, enjoy each small question
Remember that even in the busy day to day scope
If you happen to have a moment of silence, may it be of hope
When the snowflakes are falling and the sight of angels are near
If bells are heard ringing, or in the background is singing
It is okay to close your eyes and imagine and remember
That Santa might just exist – here or in the ever after…

Our children hold the future of humanity. Only through good and meaningful values that are established in children and held true as adults, can our society prevent the many ills we face each day.
THE VALUE OF VALUES
Five-Time Author Teaches Us We Can Each Make a Difference – The Choice is Ours

The Value of Values educates us on how to establish a culture that will ensure harmony for generations to come and diminish the aggressive ways of the powerful…just by teaching our children values.

Did you know that an individual’s values are established in childhood and serve as filters when determining right from wrong throughout the person’s life? In today’s society, this process of establishing values within our children is given little concern. How are our children supposed to grow up to be adults with values if we’re not teaching them values from the beginning?

The responsibilities of parenting have become a reactionary process whereby each parent is doing whatever he or she must do in order to just get through life. By default, we are teaching our children that values such as integrity, respect for life, courage of conviction, purposefulness and generosity are secondary to making a living. In truth, there is absolutely nothing stopping us from being true to good and meaningful values except ourselves.

The Value of Values teaches us the required actions and reasons this important transition is needed. This book identifies what it will take from each of us to sustain the drive to pass our values onto our children.
