Turning of the Year

Out with the old and in with the new… how many times will you hear that this week… wow.
I suppose it is good that there are times throughout our life where we can justifiable say “this time in my life sucked” and just move forward. It is especially easy to do this on New Year’s… why some may ask (I don’t know who some are just go with me on this please) so back to my point… easy to do the “throw this past year in the past and move forward” uh…. Duh…. We get to start writing a new year on our checks (if anyone uses them anymore), we start planning for spring and vacations, and all the planning anyone could possibly plan for… but here is the question and dilemma.
Did we plan properly this past year? I sometimes feel that each year I make the same thought based notions of “resolutions”, “changes”, this is it – this is the year… to which now I say – put down the punch and let’s think all of this through.
First. Why specifically was 2009 a struggle? Or were there just things within 2009 that made it a struggle… I am a little skeptic that anyone would say this whole past year was awful. I would want to say to them each of the following things – plus many more…
Questions: So you didn’t smile, not once? No laughter? Did you do anything that put a smile on someone else’s face? Did you clean or donate something? Did you give of your time to help out a family member or friend? Did you spend time with your family? Did you attend the children’s events in your life? Did you take a day or two and do nothing? Did you walk in the park, in the sun, in the rain? Did you pet a dog or cat? Did you make yourself food? Did you stay in a place where a roof was had and blankets were there? Did you drive a car to your job? Did you have a job? Did you hug someone you loved? Did you learn anything new?
These are just a few of the things I would ask someone who would say that 2009 was a horrible year. I heard something on a news program where so many people were unhappy with 2009 because certain tech advances didn’t hold as much water as they said, things like – the government it is their entire fault. Yeah right, and I am the next Queen of England. Easy to point a finger and say things are terrible when you don’t truly know.
I know personally it was a very challenging year full of mountains and potholes – but in each and every one I was able to find a silver line. “To the silver line, the man said – for in the end it is all we have”…
May your list of 2009 great moments be filled with what you are blessed with and want to continue to embrace in 2010… check out the link with this posting – it shows us how things were 100 years ago. Slightly eye opening in the realm of just existing and having a good year. 100 Years Ago...
(and for anyone who is doing resolutions… stay tuned for tomorrows posting… ;)
