Tipping My Hat to '09

Today is here for all to embrace
Like a birthday we anticipate
For no matter the level we have achieved
There is still something to be said
For a wonderful New Years Eve

In the past year there are the normal mountains climbed
This year just more of us climbed them than before
In the past year first times occurred
All the while reminding us of the journey we have to go
This past year was brought in by change so it was said
And change in how we did things to survive
For the past year fingers were pointed
Blaming the state of one’s life:

But ownership and accepting
Though not on the forefront
Were attributes shown by the unnoticed person

The knowledge we have learned
Thru a short few 365 days is
That life yet again
Should embrace love not hate

Life is too short as we saw many times this past year
But life is also big and should be challenged and not feared
Hats off to 2009 for all that it brought
For though you many not like this - many a things were taught
Cheers to the heroes in our everyday life
From children, teachers, and officers
To the individual great husband and wife
Raise your glass to '09 and tip it back for 2010
May we apply what we have learned
For the satisfaction and enjoyment

Tomorrow, the next year, decade and then
We will still hold our heads high
For no matter the challenges
We still live in a place
Where we can embrace all the differences
